New Institutional Director for Aeres University of Applied Sciences

Date

Aeres University of Applied Sciences appoints a new Institutional Director. As of 1 September 2020, Freek Rebel (47) will take up this challenging position. He succeeds Rieke de Vlieger, who will retire in the autumn of 2020 as Institutional Director of Aeres University of Applied Sciences and as faculty director of Aeres University of Applied Sciences Dronten.(*)

During Rieke de Vlieger's tenure, Aeres University of Applied Sciences developed rapidly in recent years. Internal operations were streamlined and the three faculties in Almere, Dronten and Wageningen realised a substantial, high-quality range of education and research under her leadership. Numerous partnerships with external partners play an important role in this, completing her extensive track record.
As Institutional Director, Freek Rebel will be responsible for the further development of Aeres University of Applied Sciences as a whole and the implementation of the Aeres strategy within the institution. Safeguarding the quality of research and education within Aeres University of Applied Sciences is also part of his mission, as well as further developing the profile of the University of Applied Sciences within the relevant disciplines. Where possible, Freek will work with his team to create synergy with other institutions, inside and outside of Aeres.

Freek Rebel has plenty of administrative and management experience within and outside of the field of education. In the past seven years, he occupied the position of Director of Operations and Faculty Director at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA). In the past year, he was also dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, focusing explicitly on integrating social themes such as sustainability, digitisation and ethics in education and research.

Bastiaan Pellikaan, chairperson of the Aeres Board of Directors: 'We are very pleased to welcome Freek Rebel as Director of the institution at Aeres University of Applied Sciences. Aeres wants to make an important contribution to the availability of highly qualified education and research within the green sector. We are confident that as a connector, internally and externally, Freek Rebel can further strengthen the university's position in this regard.'

(*) The position of Faculty Director of Aeres University of Applied Sciences Dronten is still vacant.
